Manly Union Luncheon 2017

Manly Union Luncheon 2017

On Wednesday 15th March 2017, the Seminary of the Good Shepherd community were joined by the members of the Manly Union for the annual celebratory luncheon.  We were blessed to have been joined by Terry Brady, Auxiliary Bishop of Sydney, Peter. A. Comensoli, Bishop of Broken Bay, and Robert McGuckin, Bishop of Toowoomba as well as over 40 other priests.  The annual luncheon is an opportunity for the seminarians to meet priests who received their priestly formation at St Patrick’s Seminary, Manly, and who now support the education and formation of Catholic clergy throughout Australia.

The seminary rector, Father Danny Meagher, updated the priests of the Manly Union on current seminary affairs, and spoke briefly about the changes in the new Ratio Fundamentalis Institutionis Sacerdotalis (Vatican document regarding priestly formation). Father Danny emphasised the importance of fostering a charitable community spirit, especially for young men aspiring towards leadership roles in parish communities. The three-course lunch was enjoyed by all, and provided the perfect opportunity for many priests to catch up with old friends and impart their practical wisdom on aspiring students.

Overall, the day was a great success, and we hope to see this great tradition continue for many more years to come.
