A Step Forward

A Step Forward

Pentecost Sunday of 2016 saw one of our brothers, Jonathan Vala, admitted to Candidacy. It was an appropriate date to hold such a joyous occasion that presented the Church’s acknowledgement of him being a suitable man to partake in the sacred ministry of the priesthood. Being held on Pentecost was a reminder that our Church’s foundation is truly built on the Apostles and that her continuation will never cease because of God’s grace, but also particularly through the priesthood, which allows us, the faithful, to meet Christ both in the priest and in the Sacraments that he is called to minister. This occasion is another stepping stone that Jonathan has crossed that brings him closer to serving in such an office.

The Mass was held in St Marys Cathedral with the main celebrant being Fr Danny Meagher, Rector of the Seminary of the Good Shepherd, alongside a number of priests concelebrating that consisted of both seminary staff and friends of Jonathan. In attendance were students from the Seminary, but more importantly, his family who were present to witness and support him.

Jonathan is currently the youngest member of the community joining immediately after high school. He has been recently selected to complete his studies in Rome by the Archbishop of Sydney, Anthony Fisher, and so we pray for him as he continues in his journey towards the priesthood.
